Gallatin campus tours are a great way to get see if Vol State is the best fit for you! Students can learn more about majors, programs, and on campus services. Vol State tours are led by Vol State students - our President’s Ambassadors. They include a tour of the campus, buildings, and resources available to students. Tours are given Monday through Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m. Schedule a tour here.

Vol State Graduate Wins Prestigious State Department Fellowship

Orlinda, Tennessee is 6,934 miles from Beijing, China, but that didn’t stop a young Isabella Greene from dreaming about China and what it was like to live in Asia or Africa, for that matter. She was homeschooled in Robertson County, worked in her parents flower shop in Portland, and found joy in arranging stems and blooms. Greene took her talents to Volunteer State Community College at the age of 19. It didn’t stick. She returned again at age 25. Now the 35 year-old has arrived in Washington, D-C to work on master’s degree at American University.

Wife and Husband Exhibit at Vol State Gallery

The works of wife and husband artists, Heather Jones and Jeffrey Cortland Jones, will be on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery in August and September, opening the fall season for the gallery. The Ohio couple have shown their pieces nationally and internationally. They both make extensive use of colors with his pieces often paint on panels and her creations in fabric

Foundation Celebrates 30 Years with Dinner Sept. 12

The Volunteer State Community College Foundation is celebrating 30 years of service to the community with a special event on September 12. Complete the Dream will feature wine and bourbon tasting, dinner, and comedy by Rik Roberts. In 30 years the Foundation has raised approximately $16,555,863 and awarded approximately $6,350,032 in student scholarships. The other funds were used for capital projects that included new buildings, new campuses, renovations of older facilities, and many other projects that directly help Vol State students.

Dean’s List - The Dean’s List recognition is awarded to students that have completed a minimum of twelve collegiate-level hours with at least a 3.750 GPA during the awarding term.

Register Now: EYH Science Event for Girls Grades 5-9

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a one-day conference that helps girls in grades 5-9 develop a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Hands-on workshops will be held in chemistry, biology, math, health sciences, computer information technology, and engineering. The workshops are not only educational, they’re an opportunity for girls to meet and work with women in the sciences.

Volunteer Fair Connects People with Organizations September 14

Volunteerism is ingrained in the Tennessee spirit. However, people may need help connecting with organizations that need assistance. The upcoming Volunteer Fair at Volunteer State Community College can make those connections. There will be approximately 20 local nonprofit groups on site for the Saturday, September 14 event. It's organized by the One Community Sumner County library collaborative- a partnership between the public libraries of Sumner County, Sumner County Schools, and Vol State’s Thigpen Library.

Lifelong Learning Lecture Series this Fall

Murder in Nashville, dentistry for crime fighting, and poetry are just a few of the topics coming up this fall for the KEY Lifelong Learning Program at Volunteer State Community College. There are several lectures scheduled on Friday mornings. The titles are “Murder in Music City”; “Normal Aging/Not Normal Aging”; “Taking a Bite Out of Crime: How Forensic Dentistry Helps to Solve Mysteries”; “Women’s History”; “Why Science Works”, and “Poetry & Expressive Writing – Writing About Life.” The fee to enroll in one or all of the lectures in the series is $59.

Still Time to Apply for Fall Classes

There is still time to apply for fall classes at Vol State. They start on August 26. We have 100 areas of study and courses that are taught online and at our four campuses: Gallatin, Springfield, Cookeville, and Livingston. Adults who don't already have a college degree can apply for TN Reconnect, tuition-free education. Other financial aid is also available. Start now at www.volstate.edu/apply
