Emergency Text Alerts provide information regarding emergencies and important notices, including weather closings and delays, building evacuations, and dangers requiring lock-down or shelter-in-place. There is also an automatic National Weather Service alert for tornado warnings for the primary campus you are assigned to. You will only receive texts for Tornado Warnings…no other weather alerts will be sent, aside from campus delays and closings.
Vol State also sends text messages once or twice a week with important college information: upcoming events, when fees are due, when to check for financial aid notifications, when priority registration opens for you, etc.
Students
All registered students are automatically signed up for Vol State text alerts. You can update your primary mobile phone number via the My Vol State portal, under the Personal Information section. Make sure it is the cell phone number that you wish to receive texts. To opt-out of these texts, reply STOP to any text we send. But once you do that, you will be permanently removed from the emergency and student text service.
Faculty and Staff
New employees are automatically sent a welcome email by the Rave Text Alert System, which is the company we use. It should arrive as soon as the employee email address is set up. It contains a username and temporary password and a website address. New employees should visit that website and set up their credentials. They should also choose the campus for which they would like alerts and tornado warnings. That can be one campus or any combination of campuses. New employees should also check to make sure their cell phone number is correct in the system. Additional emails and phones can also be added. It is managed entirely by the employee, so employees should save their login information, in case numbers need to be updated in the future.
