Getting drugs off the street is one way that law enforcement and social agencies can battle the opioid epidemic. A new drug drop-off box, in partnership with the Sumner County Anti-Drug Coalition (SCADC), is now available at Volunteer State Community College. It is located in the Campus Police Department lobby, on the first floor of the Wood Campus Center.

Relief prints by Nashville artist Ted Jones will be on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery in March. Jones works in a wide range of media, including copper relief repousse, painting, and wood sculpture. He is most famous for his relief prints which will be the focus of this exhibit. The artist’s complex images are often stories of deep community traditions, family, and faith.
Planning a crime isn’t easy. There is plenty to consider. Metro Nashville Police Lieutenant Frank Ragains is an instructor at Volunteer State Community College. He designs mock crime scenes so that students can collect evidence and document the scene with a critical eye. Effective evidence processing is important in a criminal investigation. Mishandled evidence could be lost or found inadmissible in court. Vol State students now have more room, and more time, to investigate mock crime scenes thanks to a new Criminal Justice lab building at the college.
Topics ranging from political science to botany are coming up this spring for the KEY Lifelong Learning Program at Volunteer State Community College. There are several lectures scheduled on Friday mornings.
Tennessee residents are invited to beautify their properties and their communities by planting trees on Tennessee Tree Day, March 21, 2020. The initiative is providing a variety of tree species for sale. Trees are available to reserve for a $2.49 donation or $4.99 per tree, depending on species, now through March 1 or while supplies last. One of the pick-up locations will be the Volunteer State Community College campus at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin.
Belmont University and Volunteer State Community College announced today a new partnership that allows Vol State associate degree students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s of Business Administration (B.B.A.) from Belmont’s Jack C. Massey College of Business.
Volunteer State Community College will be offering new information technology dual enrollment courses to Robertson County high school students in a special program next school year. Interested students should meet with guidance counselors now. The classes are an introductory computer programming course in the fall and a course in Python programming language the following semester. The dual enrollment courses earn students both high school credits and college credits for the same learning experience.
The Art Gallery at Volunteer State Community College is hosting the Tennessee Intercollegiate Juried Student Art Exhibition. Students enrolled in studio art classes at the thirteen Tennessee community colleges were eligible to submit art works. Students from six of the colleges are represented in this year’s show. The works will be judged and prizes awarded. This year’s juror is Billy Renkl, professor of Art, Drawing and Illustration at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville. The show runs from January 27 to February 22.
