Phlebotomists are in high demand in the healthcare field. The phlebotomy course is a combination of online learning, practical labs, and a rotation in a clinical setting. This course is designed to prepare students for the NHA (National Healthcareer Association) Phlebotomy Technician certification exam. Upon completion, students will be able to perform:
- Venipuncture procedures
- Capillary collection procedures
- Point of care testing
- Urine collection
- Specimen processing
Phlebotomists are employed in hospitals, urgent care centers, physician offices, independent labs, health departments, and blood banks. The demand for phlebotomists is expected to increase by 25% by 2026. The average annual median salary for phlebotomists in the Middle TN area ranges between $22,000 and $32,000.
Requirements
Background check, drug screening, and math assessment are required before acceptance. Pre-clinical requirements include medical and liability insurance and documentation of vaccines.
