Nursing Grads Have 100 Percent RN Licensure Pass Rate

Volunteer State Community College has expanded online support for students and faculty are finding new ways to teach classes. In Nursing, one instructor uses online polling instead of traditional quizzes. It allows students to see what they know in comparison to the rest of the class and offers a new way to spark class discussion. It’s a commitment to help students succeed, even in the most trying of circumstances. The college will have hundreds of courses to choose from this spring, in more than 100 areas of study.
Radio and podcasting are big parts of how people communicate these days. Aside from traditional over the air stations, radio now includes listening at work on the computer and following a favorite personality’s podcast for entertainment. Volunteer State Community College has added a new Digital Radio Media concentration to train students for radio and podcasting careers, as part of the Entertainment Media Production program.
Volunteer State Community College student LaDarius Cortez Roberts of Waverly received the inaugural Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor's Commendation for Military Veterans. It was awarded on Veteran’s Day by Vol State president, Jerry Faulkner, at the Gallatin campus. The commendation comes in the form of a special Challenge Coin presented on behalf of the chancellor, Flora Tydings. Challenge coins are a rich tradition in all branches of the military and signify special achievement, excellence, hard work, unit pride, respect, and esprit de corps.
Christo Brand, former prison warden and friend of Nelson Mandela, will share a living testimonial of Mandela’s time in prison and his release. Brand is one of a select few who can offer authentic insights into Mandela’s thoughts, reflections, and hope for humanity. It’s part of International Education Week at Volunteer State Community College and the public is invited to attend.

The North Central P-16 Council recently announced the 2020 BEST (Businesses Empowering Students and Teachers) Award winners. The BEST Award celebrates exemplary support of education among community leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs. It recognizes those who share knowledge and expertise, advocate, and foster student success in pre-K through postsecondary education. The P-16 Council is made up of area secondary school educators, higher education leaders and business people. It is led by Volunteer State Community College.
Melanie Cochran, co-owner of the Wild Cow vegetarian restaurant in Nashville, will discuss “American Stew” the melting pot of American cuisine on Wednesday, October 21 at 11:30 a.m. The virtual presentation is open to the public and will examine how imperialism, slavery, immigration, technology, politics, and popular culture have shaped a uniquely American cuisine. Cochran is also an assistant professor of History at Vol State.
The Volunteer State Community College Computer Information Technology Department is presenting a Cybersecurity Awareness Month Webinar on Wednesday, October 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Titled “If You Connect It, Protect It,” the webinar will include the topics: Securing Devices at Home and Work; The Future of Connected Devices; and Volunteer State Community College Internet of Things (IOT)/Connected devices. Presenters will include experts from the FBI and the State of Tennessee.
