Vol State at Springfield Holds New Leadership Open House

Volunteer State Community College at Springfield will hold an open house on October 14 to introduce the community to the new college president, Orinthia Montague and the new Springfield site director, Destinee Duff. They both began their positions this fall. Vol State at Springfield is a degree granting center offering many general education courses that apply to many degree paths. The reception will take place from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be refreshments. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Vol State has More than 100 Areas of Study

Vol State has more than 100 areas of study in six divisions: Business and Technology, Humanities, Math and Science, Nursing, Social Science and Education, and Health Sciences. They are available to all students, including those using TN Promise and TN Reconnect tuition-free scholarships. Some programs do have a competitive application process. Vol State Anniversary and Welcome Lunch October 21

Volunteer State Community College is celebrating its 50 year anniversary this year and welcoming the new president of the college, Dr. Orinthia Montague. Everyone is invited for an outdoor lunch on Thursday, October 21 from Noon to 2:30 p.m. on the Gallatin campus.

Foundation Dinner Features Comedian Henry Cho November 4

Comedian Henry Cho will be the entertainment highlight for the Complete the Dream dinner coming up on November 4. The Volunteer State Community College Foundation is holding the event to raise money for student scholarships and other endeavors. Cho grew up in Knoxville and attended U-T before heading to Hollywood for a stand-up comedy career and appearances on many TV shows and movies. He is known for his “clean” comedy that often describes his experiences as an Asian American growing up in the South.

High School Seniors - Apply for TN Promise Now

High School Seniors- it’s time to fill out the TN Promise application to give you access to your tuition-free college education next fall. You may have not made a decision on where to attend yet. Filling out the application by the deadline of Nov. 1 gives you the option to attend Vol State tuition-free. Students can also now fill out their FAFSA. Vol State Holds Online Event for Girls Interested in Science

TN Girls in STEM is an online event organized by Volunteer State Community College. It’s designed to get girls in grades 5 through 9 interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). It will be held on October 2 and registration is open now. The learning event has been held for several years under the name Vol State EYH. This new online conference is free and will feature workshops on a variety of topics, including: animal eyes, cyber safety, 3D printing, and solving medical mysteries.

Welcome Dr. Montague!

Dr. Orinthia Montague began her first day as President of Volunteer State Community College on Wednesday, September 1.  She has been meeting with faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Montague comes most recently from New York, where she was president of Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden.

Vol State Announces New President’s Ambassadors

Volunteer State Community College has a new group of President’s Ambassadors for 2021-2022. The Ambassadors represent the college at events, conduct campus tours, and help with public relations.
