Vol State has more than 100 areas of study in six divisions: Business and Technology, Humanities, Math and Science, Nursing, Social Science and Education, and Health Sciences. They are available to all students, including those using TN Promise and TN Reconnect tuition-free scholarships. Some programs do have a competitive application process. Vol State Increases In-Person Classes for Fall Semester

Volunteer State Community College is welcoming students back to school with more in-person classes this fall. The college will be increasing the number of on-ground classes available on all four campuses: Springfield, Gallatin, Cookeville, and Livingston. The college will also be expanding opportunities for students to engage in campus activities while still maintaining safety measures. Vol State classes have been primarily online for the last year, due to COVID-19.

Current students can register at any time on My Vol State. However, everyone is encouraged to register earlier than usual this year, so that you get the course times and days that you want. There are some changes to My Vol State. We have details here.

Apply Now for Spring Classes -They Start January 19

Volunteer State Community College has expanded online support for students and faculty are finding new ways to teach classes. In Nursing, one instructor uses online polling instead of traditional quizzes. It allows students to see what they know in comparison to the rest of the class and offers a new way to spark class discussion. It’s a commitment to help students succeed, even in the most trying of circumstances. The college will have hundreds of courses to choose from this spring, in more than 100 areas of study.

Federal Study Shows High Cost of a Gap Year

Students considering taking a gap year, time off from college due to the pandemic, may want to consider the eventual lost wages- up to $90,000 over their career. That’s according to a new study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. It said that there are sizeable hidden costs in taking even just a year off from college, including a wage gap wedge that could stick with the student throughout their career.

Vol State Offers Two Fall Classes in Carthage

Volunteer State Community College is offering two classes this fall at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce location in Carthage. Math 1010 will be held on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Sociology 1010 on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Each class will be conducted via Zoom video conferencing. These are both general education classes that apply to many degree paths. Class size will be restricted for COVID-19 precautions. The Chamber classes can be especially helpful for people who have limited online capability at home.

Vol State Springfield Receives State Approval to Offer Degree Programs

Volunteer State Community College's Springfield campus has received approval from the Tennessee Board of Regents to offer complete college degree programs in Robertson County starting this fall semester. The college has offered classes at the Springfield campus since 2011. Thus far, students have had to combine the courses offered in Springfield with other courses held online or on the Vol State Gallatin campus in order to obtain a degree.
