Nursing Program Start-Up Donation Announced

Sumner Regional Medical Center is the first of the area hospitals to commit support to the new Volunteer State Community College Nursing program, with a donation of $50,000. Vol State is taking the final steps to gain full approval for the new program. When final approval is received there will be an announcement about specifics.

Apply Now for Vol State Spring Classes

Spring semester at Volunteer State Community College is another opportunity for adult students to attend classes tuition-free with TN Reconnect. TN Reconnect is a statewide program that began this fall. Hundreds of TN Reconnect students are taking classes at Vol State this semester. The primary requirement is that people can’t already have a college degree. They can have college credits and those credits could apply to a Vol State degree.

Fall Fiesta Saturday, October 20

Aztec dance group Quetzalli Yolotl will be a highlight of the Fall Fiesta at Volunteer State Community College on October 20. The annual celebration of Latino culture will include a soccer goal kicking contest, with several age categories from kids to adult. The Fiesta is a free event featuring food, music and fun.

Stewart and Nordeman Exhibit at Vol State Gallery in October

The Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery is showcasing the work of two female artists, both working with feminine imagery in a variety of materials, including textiles.  Gallery coordinator, Sue Mulcahy, said that Monica Stewart and Erinn Nordeman challenge the traditional roles of women, and invite the viewer to question the identity and expectations of women today.

Sumner County’s newest college, with a longstanding tradition in Nashville, has signed an agreement with Volunteer State Community College to make transfer between the two schools easier. Students can start at Vol State using Tennessee Promise for their first two years, and then continue to Welch College for a bachelor’s degree.

New Professional Music Degree and Tuition-Free Classes this Fall

The big news for the fall semester at Volunteer State Community College is the tuition-free program for adults called Tennessee Reconnect. It’s designed for adults who don’t already have a college degree. They can take classes full or part-time in all of Vol State’s academic areas. It includes day, evening and online courses. There are some stipulations and additional eligibility requirements. For details, and a simple list of how to get started, people can visit www.volstate.edu/reconnect.

Sumner Middle College High School Graduation

The Sumner County Middle College High School graduation ceremony was held on Saturday at Volunteer State Community College. Students in the program take college classes at the Vol State campus in Gallatin as high school students. Thirty-one students earned their high school diplomas. Eleven of those also received associate degrees from Vol State.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Volunteer State offers a complete English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program of high beginning to advanced courses in reading, writing, grammar, and conversation whether you want to learn English for yourself, a current job, or to prepare for a college degree. Our college also serves international students who want to attend college with a Language Training VISA as recognized through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
