The work of Ohio artist Landon Crowell is on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery. Crowell is the Sculpture and Gallery technician at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where he also completed his B.F.A. in sculpture. Landon said he has spent more than 17 years traveling and living across the United States honing his technical skills and exploring the art making process.
The work of Las Vegas artist Erik Beehn is on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery. The exhibit will be an installation, meaning that Beehn will build some of the art on location. The show is based on the novel “The Yellow Wallpaper” written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
The work of Nashville artist Chip Boles will be on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery starting November 12. Boles creates drawings in graphite and charcoal on wood panels. He is a muralist in productions for the Nashville Children’s Theatre, and has been featured in publications such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He illustrates what he calls “realistic drawings of unreal characters.”
The Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery is showcasing the work of two female artists, both working with feminine imagery in a variety of materials, including textiles. Gallery coordinator, Sue Mulcahy, said that Monica Stewart and Erinn Nordeman challenge the traditional roles of women, and invite the viewer to question the identity and expectations of women today.
Dallas-based artist Jessie Barnes combines flora, fauna and human imagery in colorful, complex, and often jungle-like settings that harken back to her childhood in Florida. She practices printmaking, painting and drawing. Her work is currently on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery.
The work of lettering artist and graphic designer Lisa Lorek Quine will be on display at the Volunteer State Community College Art Gallery in January and February. The Cleveland based artist’s presentation has ranged from coloring books and murals to magazine covers and gallery shows.
