Whether you’re an upcoming freshman, an experienced sophomore, or returning to college for a new career, going to school after a long break can be overwhelming. It doesn't have to be. Here are three things you should do before the school year starts to make the most of your college experience.
1. REGISTER FOR CLASSES
Get the Schedule You Want and the Classes You Need by Registering Early!
Class openings typically fill up quickly, so registering early allows you to choose the classes you want. Students that register early can get the courses they need to stay on track for graduation.
Orientation is required for all new students and is designed to help you transition to our campus community.
Volunteer State Community College has expanded online support for students and faculty are finding new ways to teach classes. In Nursing, one instructor uses online polling instead of traditional quizzes. It allows students to see what they know in comparison to the rest of the class and offers a new way to spark class discussion. It’s a commitment to help students succeed, even in the most trying of circumstances. The college will have hundreds of courses to choose from this spring, in more than 100 areas of study.
The fall semester is the start of a college career for many students. Volunteer State Community College has more than 100 areas of study for students to choose. One new path is the RN Nursing A.A.S. Degree program. Students can take Pre-Nursing as a major. It lays out exactly what classes students need to take in order to apply for the new Nursing program.
Spring semester at Volunteer State Community College is another opportunity for adult students to attend classes tuition-free with TN Reconnect. TN Reconnect is a statewide program that began this fall. Hundreds of TN Reconnect students are taking classes at Vol State this semester. The primary requirement is that people can’t already have a college degree. They can have college credits and those credits could apply to a Vol State degree.
