Three Things You Should Do Before Classes Start

Mon, Jul 25, 2022

Whether you’re an upcoming freshman, an experienced sophomore, or returning to college for a new career, going to school after a long break can be overwhelming. It doesn't have to be. Here are three things you should do before the school year starts to make the most of your college experience.

1. REGISTER FOR CLASSES

The first step to earning a degree is getting registered for classes. Make sure to contact your advisor to help you with this. It is important to have your advisor assist you with registration so that you can sign up for the right classes and graduate on time.

To set up an advising appointment, visit the advising page.

2. BUY BOOKS AND SUPPLIES

Make sure to order school books and other class material as soon as possible. This will ensure that you are prepared on the first day of class. Classes start on August 22nd. Make sure to stock up on pencils, three-ring binders, notebooks, and anything else you might need. You can buy books and school supplies at the Vol State bookstore. Every Vol State campus has a bookstore for your convenience.

You can also order books and supplies at the online bookstore.

3. GET FAMILIAR WITH THE CAMPUS

It is a good idea to get familiar with the campus before classes start. You can do this at a Pioneer Preview event. During Pioneer Preview, you can pick up your student ID, get your parking decal, and walk your schedule to see where your classes are located.

To take a full campus tour, go to the campus tour page.
