Volunteer State Community College is celebrating 50 years of service to residents of Wilson County and the other 10 counties in the college service area. Groundbreaking for the Vol State Gallatin campus was held on a cold and blustery day in November of 1970. The college opened for classes in October of 1971. Vol State is in the funding and design process for building a new campus in Mt. Juliet. Recently, Wilson County leaders issued a resolution honoring Vol State and recognizing the more than 3,200 county residents who have received a degree or certificate from Vol State in the last 50 years. In the fall semester, 1022 Wilson County students attended Vol State.
