The Vol State Theater is excited to present, “The Rainbow Fish,” a one-act stage adaptation of the beloved children’s book written by Marcus Pfister. This will be an audience-immersive performance following the most popular fish on the reef, the Rainbow Fish. With the help of her friends, the Rainbow Fish learns that sharing and kindness are more important than just being adored.
“This is the first time in a couple of years that we’ve done a children’s theatre production in the big theatre here on campus,” said Professor Brendan Tramel, who is directing the performance. “We haven’t been able to do one since the fall of 2019, so this is our first time back on the big stage. I'm excited to utilize our big space again and bring in a bigger audience to see this production,” she said.
“I think the message [of this production] is to share, and that sharing is a wonderful form of caring,” said Gianna Sasmore, who plays the Rainbow Fish. “Even something as tiny as a scale really makes a difference to everyone in the community.”
The play features a cast of eight Vol State students: Emma Daniels, Shannon Hayes, Elizabeth Hinson, Savannah Ivey, Brianna Sabin, Gianna Sasmore, Melanie Thurman, and Amani Johnson. Performances are on October 7th at 7 p.m. and October 8th at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Caudill Hall’s Wemyss Auditorium. There will also be a performance on October 6th at 10 a.m. for school groups and homeschooled groups. This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.
