Vol State Holds Online Event for Girls Interested in Science

TN Girls in STEM is an online event organized by Volunteer State Community College. It’s designed to get girls in grades 5 through 9 interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). It will be held on October 2 and registration is open now. The learning event has been held for several years under the name Vol State EYH. This new online conference is free and will feature workshops on a variety of topics, including: animal eyes, cyber safety, 3D printing, and solving medical mysteries.

Warf Math and Science Building Renovation Celebration

The Warf Math and Science Building at Volunteer State Community College has undergone a $6 million renovation and today students, faculty, staff, and donors gathered to celebrate the completion. Members of the public, construction managers, architects, and designers joined the crowd. The renovation provides more than 9000 square feet of additional space. It includes a new Mechatronics lab, two new science labs, student study areas, and more than 30 faculty offices. Pictured: the ribbon cutting.

Warf Math and Science Building Renovation Celebration

The Warf Math and Science Building at Volunteer State Community College has undergone a $6 million renovation. The public is invited to see the results during a Grand Reopening Celebration on Friday, October 18. The renovation provides more than 9000 square feet of additional space. That includes a new Mechatronics lab with plenty of room for robotics and other training equipment. The work also upgraded the entire building, adding two new science labs, two student study areas, and more than 30 faculty offices. There will be an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a one-day conference that helps girls in grades 5-9 develop a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Hands-on workshops will be held in chemistry, biology, math, health sciences, computer information technology, and engineering. The workshops are not only educational, they’re an opportunity for girls to meet and work with women in the sciences.

The Parris Powers Science and Math Expo at Volunteer State Community College is a hands-on learning experience for kids K-8 and their parents and grandparents. The Expo is coming up on April 4. It’s a fun day of science learning. There will be dozens of demonstrations and activities. Those exhibits are put together by Vol State students, who gain a new perspective on science and math education.

Vol State Kicks-Off Math and Science Building Renovation

Science education requires specialized equipment and labs. Teaching technology is constantly evolving. Volunteer State Community College faculty, staff and students celebrated the beginning of a project Friday that will update the science and math facilities on the Gallatin campus. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a $6.2 million renovation of the J. Howard Warf Math and Science Building. The project will update all existing science labs and add two additional labs.

Science and Math Expo Coming Up April 5

Students compete in Science Olympiad at Vol State

Volunteer State Community College hosted more than 200 science students, from schools across the area Saturday, as they competed in the regional Science Olympiad competition. Thirteen schools sent teams to the regional event.
