Sonography Receives Continuing Accreditation

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Volunteer State Community College has received continuing accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). “The recent peer review conducted by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) and CAAHEP’s Board of Directors recognizes the program's substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards,” the group said in the report.

Free Pregnancy Ultrasounds at Vol State

The Volunteer State Community College Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is offering free ultrasounds for expecting moms in their second or third trimester this spring. The program organizes the scans so that Vol State students can gain experience with real obstetric patients. The scans will be performed in the Sonography Center at the Vol State campus in Gallatin. It’s equipped with six beds, HD screens, and state-of-the-art ultrasound machines. All ultrasounds are supervised by a Vol State faculty member.

Milestones for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program at Volunteer State Community College is celebrating milestones. The 2017 graduating class is the largest ever at the college, making the Vol State DMS program the biggest in the state. It’s a demanding program academically, so the retention rate of 100 percent, the number of students who started and completed, is another accomplishment. Within seven weeks of graduating, all sixteen students were employed.
