Volunteer State Community College employee Tiffany Zwart received the 2021 Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor's Commendation for Military Veterans. It was awarded recently by Vol State president, Orinthia Montague, at the Gallatin campus. The commendation comes in the form of a special Challenge Coin presented on behalf of the chancellor, Flora Tydings. Challenge coins are a rich tradition in all branches of the military and signify special achievement, excellence, hard work, unit pride, respect, and esprit de corps.
Zwart served in the United States Marine Corps for five years as an aviation electronics technician. She began her college career at Vol State in 2007 as a student with a prestigious role as a President’s Ambassador. She began working at Vol State in the Office of Admissions in 2010. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University in 2015 and a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Oklahoma State University in 2017. She returned to Vol State in the Spring of 2018 as the coordinator of student support in the Office of Student Engagement & Support, also serving as co-advisor for the Veterans Club and advisor for Spectrum.
“I joined the Marine Corps, because I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself,” Zwart said. “This translated well to the role I have on campus. I am able to serve our students, advocate for them, and once again be a part of something that will last well beyond my time here.”
