Students Named to All-Tennessee Academic Team

Volunteer State Community College students Savannah Stover of Portland and Melody Watson of Nashville have been named to the 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Tennessee Academic Team. Phi Theta Kappa is a national academic honors society for community colleges. Vol State has a chapter. The All-Tennessee Academic Team is chosen from community college students across the state.

Savannah Stover has a 4.0 GPA and expects to graduate with an Associate of Science in Mass Communication. She plans to continue at Vol State in the summer to pursue an associate of arts degree and then continue to university in the fall. Stover is the mother of seven children. “I would love to work in public relations. I enjoy writing and public speaking. I’m interested in anything that might include those things.”

Melody Watson graduated in December with a 3.73 GPA and an Associate of Science in General Studies. She was the president of PTK in 2020. She plans on studying  sports medicine or psychology and will be attending university in the fall. Watson has an active sports career. “I won my first power lifting competition and I’m going to nationals. I’m currently trying to break the world record for bench press.”
