Choosing courses for dual enrollment should be partly informed by TDOE high school graduation requirements and CTE-program alignment. Course selections can also be informed by an understanding of what post-secondary credentials the course will count toward.
Credentials Offered at the Community College
There are many types of credentials offered at the community college. Some prepare for transfer to a four-year institution and others prepare for direct career entry.
Many of the associate degrees offered at the community college are designed to be the first half of a bachelor’s degree. Once the student completes the degree, they will transfer to a four-year institution to complete the second half of the bachelor’s program. These degrees are not designed for direct career entry:
- University Parallel Degrees (AA & AS)
- Associate of Fine Arts (AFA)
- Associate of Science in Teaching (AST)
The community college also offers many associate degrees that are designed to prepare the student to enter the job market immediately upon graduation or to advance their career:
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
The community college also offers credentials for direct career entry or career advancement that take less than two years to complete:
- Technical Certificates
