I’m thrilled to share some uplifting news from Sumner County Middle College High School! Our administration is committed to providing students with opportunities to give back, both on campus and within the local community.
This year, we’ve already made an impact through several meaningful initiatives. On October 25, our students volunteered at the Gallatin Shalom Zone, contributing in various ways. Assistant Director Darla Tea, who previously collaborated with Middle College in 2019, expressed excitement about reconnecting with our student group. During the visit, half of the students focused on weeding the grounds, while others picked up trash around the campus. Some students assisted with custodial tasks, such as cleaning restrooms, sweeping, mopping high-traffic areas, and repairing broken fixtures. One team revitalized the children’s library, handling tasks like dusting, vacuuming, and reorganizing bookshelves. Another group sorted community donations for the "Christmas for Kids" initiative, categorizing clothing by size and gender.
Student River Schell reflected on the experience, calling it "a subtle and impactful opportunity to support an organization that benefits the community," and expressed interest in returning in the spring. Additionally, alumni volunteer Mr. Crenshaw from Union High School led our students on a tour of the Union High School Museum, located within the Shalom Zone, sharing insights into its rich history.
More recently, on November 15, our students supported The Feed at Vol State by bringing shelf-stable items to restock their pantry. Middle College student Maddox Souliere shared, "It was rewarding to see how our contributions directly benefit students and families in need on campus."
Community service is a cornerstone of our mission at Sumner County Middle College High School, and we are continually seeking meaningful ways to make a difference and give back.
