Vol State Holds Online Event for Girls Interested in Science

TN Girls in STEM is an online event organized by Volunteer State Community College. It’s designed to get girls in grades 5 through 9 interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). It will be held on October 2 and registration is open now. The learning event has been held for several years under the name Vol State EYH. This new online conference is free and will feature workshops on a variety of topics, including: animal eyes, cyber safety, 3D printing, and solving medical mysteries.

P-16 BEST Award Winners Announced for 2020

The North Central P-16 Council recently announced the 2020 BEST (Businesses Empowering Students and Teachers) Award winners. The BEST Award celebrates exemplary support of education among community leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs. It recognizes those who share knowledge and expertise, advocate, and foster student success in pre-K through postsecondary education. The P-16 Council is made up of area secondary school educators, higher education leaders and business people. It is led by Volunteer State Community College.

New Medical Assisting and Secondary Education Programs

The new Medical Assisting program at Volunteer State Community College can prepare students for the fastest growing health care profession in the nation. Students train to work in a doctor’s office or a healthcare clinic. That can eventually lead to a career in management and administration. Duties of the medical assistant include, but are not limited to: recording case histories, taking vital signs, giving injections, EKG work, help with lab testing, and assisting the doctor in the setup and performance of minor office surgeries.

Vol State Launches RN Nursing Degree Program

Volunteer State Community College has announced a new nursing degree program that will prepare students to apply to sit for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Approval for the program was given recently by Tennessee Board of Nursing. This new program will award an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing. It will be held on the Gallatin and Livingston campuses.
