A Mariachi lunch will be served at the Fall Fiesta at Volunteer State Community College on October 19. Sol Azteca from Nashville will perform Mariachi music during the free lunch that will feature Chile Colorado, carnitas, and chicken. The 13th annual celebration of Latino culture will include a mask-making contest this year, an event that is open to all ages.
“We like to have activities that give a sense of Latino history. Mask-making is an important tradition in many Latino nations including Guatemala, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, to name just a few,” said Eric Melcher with Vol State. “We’ll provide the paper masks and people can decorate them in whatever style they like. It’s not a formal contest. We’ll have some small prizes for the stand-outs. It should be fun for the whole family.”
The Nashville band Revolfusion will perform Latin dance music at the Fiesta. There will also be a soccer goal kicking contest, with several age categories from kids to adult. The food cook-off contest will have dishes from many different Latino nations. After judging at 11 a.m., the public is welcome to sample. The Fiesta will also have cultural dance, face painting, and games for kids.
The Fall Fiesta at Vol State will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will happen, rain or shine, on the campus at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin. The rain location is the Pickel Field House. The Fall Fiesta is free and open to everyone. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket and chairs, and spend the day. For more information in English or Spanish call 615-230-4846. La Fiesta de Vol State Presenta un Almuerzo con Mariachi el 19 de octubre
El 19 de octubre se servirá un almuerzo con de mariachi en la Fiesta de Otoño en Volunteer State Community College. Sol Azteca de Nashville interpretará música de mariachi durante el almuerzo gratuito que incluye Chile Colorado, carnitas y pollo. La decimotercera celebración anual de la cultura latina incluirá un concurso de fabricación de máscaras este año, y es un evento abierto al público de todas las edades.
“Nos gusta tener actividades que den una idea de lo que es la historia latina. La fabricación de máscaras es una tradición importante en muchas naciones latinas, incluyendo Guatemala, México y Puerto Rico, por nombrar solo algunas”, dijo Eric Melcher de Vol State. "Proporcionaremos las máscaras de papel y las personas podrán decorarlas con el estilo que deseen. No es un concurso formal. Tendremos algunos pequeños premios para los más destacados. La Fiesta de Otoño se llevará a cabo de 10 a.m. a 3 p.m. El evento sucederá, con lluvia o con sol, en el campus de Vol State en el 1480 Nashville Pike en Gallatin.
