Vol State Debaters Win and Place in Tournament

Volunteer State Community College debate students, Elijah Avery of Lebanon and Isaac Montoya of Hendersonville, won first and sixth place, respectively, in the Beginning Novice category at the Smokey Mountains Parliamentary Debate Tournament at Walters State Community College in Morristown recently.

The Vol State Debate team competed against twelve schools. Avery and Montoya placed against forty-one students entered in the debate. Topics of the debate included a standardized medical records system, supreme court justice term limits, United States-Mexico-Canada-Agreement, and the reform of the criminal justice system.
