The Tennessee Math Teachers Association (TMTA) held a regional math competition at Volunteer State Community College recently. Hundreds of students from schools across the area competed in the following categories: Algebra I and II, Geometry, Statistics, Precalculus, and Calculus. Winners will go on to compete in the state competition. The schools participating included: Davidson Academy, Hendersonville High School, Merrol Hyde Magnet School, Portland High School, Sumner Academy, Gallatin High School, Station Camp High School, Pope John Paul II High School, Highland Academy, and Trousdale High School. The top winners in each category had their photo taken with Vol State president, Jerry Faulkner.
Algebra I: Joseph Rodriguez, Merrol Hyde, first place; Joshua Rodriguez, Merrol Hyde, second place; Elijah Golden, Hendersonville, third place tie; Blake Butler, Merrol Hyde, third place tie.
Geometry: Hao Yi, JPII, first place; Nilabh Saksena, Hendersonville, second place; Darren Liu, JPII, third place.
Algebra II: Jackson Carmody, Davidson Academy, first place; Nate Baik, Davidson Academy, second place; Nicholas Dennison, Gallatin, third place.
Statistics: Kayla Delk, Hendersonville, first place; Gracie Gumm, Merrol Hyde, second place; Hartley Hines, Hendersonville, third place.
Precalculus: Joshua Smith, JPII, first place; Kevin Zhang, Davidson Academy, second place; Elijah Whitaker, Station Camp, third place.
Calculus: Alexander Krneta, Hendersonville, first place; Ian Dilick, JPII, second place; Jonathan Caldwell, Merrol Hyde, third place; and Jerry Faulkner, Vol State president.
