Course Types and Eligibility

Understanding Course Types

Vol State courses are designed according to their purposes and the credentials in which they are embedded. On the previous page, click on “Courses to Credentials” to learn more about the types of credentials that students can earn at Vol State and where they lead. This knowledge will help in choosing appropriate classes for dual enrollment.

  • University Parallel: These are designed to transfer to four-year colleges. All general education courses and some CTE-aligned courses fall into this category.
  • Career and Vocational Designation: Courses denoted with the *symbol in the title focus on specific career skills. These courses may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution.
  • Remedial: These are not available for dual enrollment
