Students compete in TMTA math competition at Vol State

The Tennessee Math Teachers Association held a regional math competition at Volunteer State Community College recently. Hundreds of students from schools across the area competed in the following categories: Algebra I and II, Geometry, Statistics, Precalculus and Calculus. Winners will go on to compete in the state competition. The schools participating included: Davidson Academy, Gallatin High School, Hendersonville High School, Merrol Hyde Magnet School, Portland High School, Portland West Middle School, White House Heritage High School, Station Camp High School, Westmoreland Middle School, Wilson Central High School, Sumner Academy, HomeLife Academy and Pope John Paul II High School.

Algebra I: Third place (tie)- Sarah Finkle, Hendersonville High; Reece Johnson, Sumner Academy; Second place- Cathleen Humm, Sumner Academy; First place- Isabell Christianson, Sumner Academy.

Geometry: Third place-Kevin Lee, Hendersonville High; Second Place- Kevin Key, Hendersonville High; First Place-Colt Cupit, Hendersonville High.

Algebra II: Third place-John Cochran, Station Camp High; Second place- Brennan Belew, Pope John Paul II; First place-Gary Collins, Hendersonville High.

Statistics: Third place-Carl Hencey, Pope John Paul II; Second place-John Pelka, Pope John Paul II; First place-Wilhelm Bunjor, Pope John Paul II.

Precalculus: Third place-Mackenzie Mayberry, Pope John Paul II; Second place- Matthew Heinrich, Hendersonville High; First place-Zachary Knight, Portland High.

Calculus and Advanced Topics: Third place-Michael Scheriger, Pope John Paul II; Second place-Joshua Escue, Pope John Paul II; First place-Kyle Meadows, Pope John Paul II.
