Dr. Ramer Memorial

Submitted on February 22, 2010 at 9:08 AM

More than 150 people turned out Friday evening to celebrate the life of Dr. Hal R. Ramer, the founding president of Vol State. Friends remembered him as a kind man who was genuinely interested in other people, and absolutely dedicated to the students, faculty and staff at the College. Music was provided by James Story and a group of Vol State employees and community members. The memorial closed with a recitation of the College Alma Mater, which Dr. Ramer helped to write:

Dear Alma Mater, Pride of Tennessee

We Go Forth to serve humanity,

Pioneers imbued with learning, we

Volunteer State, we pledge our loyalty.

Down through the days, our hearts are filled with cheer.

We recall the joys of college years.

Many times we cheered our colors true.

Singing the praise of red and white and blue.
