Students compete in TMTA math competition at Vol State

The Tennessee Math Teachers Association held a regional math competition at Volunteer State Community College recently. Hundreds of students from schools across the area competed in the following categories: Algebra I and II, Geometry, Statistics, Precalculus and Calculus. Winners will go on to compete in the state competition. The schools participating included: Davidson Academy, Gallatin High School, Hendersonville High School, Merrol Hyde Magnet School, Portland High School, Westmoreland High School, Westmoreland Middle School, Sumner Academy, Hendersonville Christian Academy, Aaron Academy, Station Camp High School, Pope John Paul II High School and Rucker-Stewart Middle School.

Algebra I first place- Jarod Black, Station Camp H.S.; second place- Andrew Jones, Hendersonville H.S.; and third place- Eliot Hinson, Hendersonville H.S.

Geometry first place- Carolyn Bologa, Pope John Paul II; second place- Grace Adcox, Pope John Paul II; third place- Christopher Biller, Hendersonville H.S.

Algebra II first place- Remilia Li, Pope John Paul II; Alyssa-Reina Rentuza, Pope John Paul II; third place tie- Tyler Dorr, Pope John Paul II; and Zhenglang Hao, Hendersonville High School.

Statistics first place- three way tie: Caleb Holton, Pope John Paul II; Gary Collins, Hendersonville H.S.; Brennan Belew, Pope John Paul II; second place- Benjamin Geist, Pope John Paul II; and third place- Ben Jacob, Hendersonville H.S.

Precalculus first place- Daniel Edwards, Pope John Paul II; second place- Junhao Huang, Portland H.S.; third place- Alexander Byrd, Westmoreland H.S.

Calculus and Advanced Topics first place- Spencer Frost, Pope John Paul II; Ashley Brown, Portland H.S.; Chu Chu, Hendersonville H.S.
