The Volunteer State Community College Thigpen Library Gallery will present the artwork of Alicia Henry in an exhibit beginning November 6. Henry is an associate professor of art at Fisk University in Nashville.

Henry has received numerous grants and awards from various foundations including the Ford Foundation, and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. She has had exhibitions at the Cheekwood Museum and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.

"Isolation and interaction is a common recurring idea in my work," said Henry."I am interested in the complexities and the contradictions surrounding familial relationships as well as societal differences and how these variations affect individual and group responses to themes of Beauty, the Body, and Identity. My current work explores these ideas, addressing the process through which groups, specifically female, navigate these issues."

The exhibit will run from November 6 until December 18 at the Thigpen Library Gallery on the Vol State campus at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin. For more information call 615-230-3201.
