Volunteer State Community College presents "Astrobleme", a solo exhibition of mixed media work by artist Lain York. York is a native of Nashville whose painting continues to reference images found in history and ethnographic museum catalogs. These are paintings of sculptures conveyed through photography and can be read as portraits that exist somewhere between an interior landscape and assumed identity. The idea is that of the lost record or unidentified museum piece and is an attempt to deal with the intangible through physical and ordered means. The exhibit can be viewed at the Vol State Thigpen Library Gallery at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin through November 5. There will be a Gallery Talk by the artist on October 22 at 10:00 a.m. For more information e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
