Vol State Associate Professor Honored for Teaching Excellence

Dr. Rita Sowell of Volunteer State Community College received the 2010 Teaching Excellence Award from the Tennessee Mathematical Association for Two-Year Colleges (TMATYC). The announcement and award came at the annual TMATYC Banquet held this year at Cleveland State Community College.

Dr. Sowell is Associate Professor of Mathematics at Vol State, where she has been teaching for the last 23 years. She has been a leader in online learning at the College and a member of the Tennessee Board of Regents Redesign Taskforce. Her doctorate work at Tennessee State University studied the types of interactions that occur in online classes and how that relates to success in learning.
