Summer classes are an opportunity for students to get ahead in their college career. That includes high school students, current college students, and adult students. Summer and Maymester classes start soon at Volunteer State Community College and registration is open now.
Many people don’t know about Maymester classes, but they allow students to take an entire credit course in less than a month. The intensive classes start on May 6 and usually meet five days a week and for three or more hours a day.
There are dozens of summer classes in many subject areas to choose from and they come in a couple of different versions. Some classes run for the entire summer from May 31 to August 6. Other classes run for the first five weeks, from May 31 to July 1. There is also a second five-week version from July 5 to August 6. Summer classes are offered online and in hybrid formats which combine online with traditional classroom meetings. It’s all designed to increase flexibility for the summer student, allowing them to work college in with job, family and fun.
Teachers will be able to choose from three accelerated recertification classes this summer. These intensive classes run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day for a week. Education of Exceptional Children starts on June 13. Language and Literacy in Early Childhood starts on June 20. Child Psychology starts on July 11. Vol State will have First Aid/CPR classes for college credit in the Maymester and the first five weeks of the summer session.
Visit www.volstate.edu/schedule for the summer and Maymester schedules and for information on how to apply and register. New students will need to fill out an application, which can be done online. Students can also visit the Admissions Office in person at the Ramer Building on the Vol State campus at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin or call 615-230-3688.
