The “Greatest Generation” was given the moniker in part for the sacrifices and the incredibly important stand veterans made during World War Two. Volunteer State Community College is honoring veterans, and highlighting the accomplishments of World War Two veterans, during a special event. “Vol State Salutes World War Two Veterans” will feature stories from the war, music and remembrances. The color guard from the Gallatin High School Navy Jr. ROTC program will present the flag. World War Two reenactors will have a live display. Vol State students will dress in original World War Two uniforms. Students have also written letters to veterans, which will be distributed at the ceremony.
The event is being organized by Vol State faculty member Peter Johnson and the Social Science and Education Division. It will be held in the auditorium at Caudill Hall on Friday, November 12 at 12:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Vol State is located at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin.
