Categories Announced for Vol State Bluegrass Competition

Pickers, fiddlers and dancers should polish up those skills to get ready for the second annual Sumner County Bluegrass Jamboree. It's hosted and sponsored by Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin as part of the bluegrass music degree program. It will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The competition starts at noon on Saturday with Mandolin, Guitar, Pee Wee Fiddle, Beginner Fiddle, Junior Fiddle, Senior Fiddle, Pee Wee Dancing, Junior Dancing, and Senior Dancing categories. There will be monetary prizes and judging by bluegrass veterans. Registration is free and open to everyone. Sign-up will be held the day of the event starting at 10 a.m.

In addition to the competitions, the Jamboree will have plenty of jamming and concerts in the afternoon. The Great Smoky Mountain Bluegrass Band and Bluegrass Ablaze are set to perform, along with special guests. The public is invited to come watch the competitions and the performances.

The Sumner County Bluegrass Jamboree will be held in and around Caudill Hall on the Vol State campus at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin. It is free and open to the public.
