Lydia Yau of Nashville has been awarded the Harold M. Love Community Service Award by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. The Volunteer State Community College student was recognized for her work mentoring young adults, working with children and volunteering in numerous community groups. Since her teen years, Yau has volunteered in several countries, including Malaysia, Singapore and the United States. The individuals selected to receive recognition with the Harold Love Award represent the many dimensions of community service - volunteer work, public service, charitable service and leadership roles in community organizations. The five students honored are chosen from colleges and universities across the state.

Yau is a first generation college student and single mother of two. She plans to attend Lipscomb University before pursuing a master's degree in social services.
