Your Class Instructor
Make sure you let your class instructor know if you are having problems. He or she should be your first stop for class questions.
Skill building and homework help
We have a number of services that can help you build basic skills, provide advice on essays and research papers, and even assist with homework.
Language Center
If you need extra assistance when it comes to writing or foreign languages, the Language Center is the place to go. We have tutors available to assist students with every aspect of writing, from homework assignments to class projects. We even have computers available with word processing programs. If foreign language is the issue, we have computer programs like Rosetta Stone that can help you. The Center also has specialized ESOL software.

Newskills Learning Center
The NewSkills Learning Center offers self-paced instruction for students to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and math. You can take classes to help with placement exams or hone skills you will need for upcoming course work. You can even take some credit classes for developmental reading, writing, and math. And if you need one-on-one assistance, NewSkills also has tutors ready to help.

Math & Science Lab
The Math and Science Lab is a resource available for students in all of our math classes and applied math science courses like chemistry and physics. We have a staff of tutors and computer software ready to help.

Thigpen Library
An online tutorial is provided online at for patrons to learn the basics for locating books, journal articles, and dependable websites. If you have a question about your research, you can call the Library or email a librarian at librarian@volstate.edu.
The library has dozens of computers, group study rooms, a copy center, lounge areas for reading, magazines and newspapers, the latest novels and books on CD, wireless access, and a helpful staff ready to answer your questions and to show you around. Many of our resources are available 24/7 through the internet.
