Geology is the study of the Earth. Geologists study Earth materials such as rocks and minerals and the processes that form and change these materials. They also study the changes that have occurred over the vast history of Earth including changes to its environment and the organisms that inhabit it.
Volunteer State Community College offers courses in geology on the main campus and off-campus sites in a variety of formats including traditional, hybrid, and interactive television. All courses include a laboratory component and some may include a field exercise component. Courses are designed to meet the needs of:
- Students beginning their studies and planning to pursue a career in geology
- Students needing to satisfy general education requirements in science
- Members of the community with an interest in geology
