V:01:24 Employee Degree Status Change

This policy permits the granting of a one-time salary adjustment for the completion of a degree by a current employee.

When an employee achieves a change in educational status, a memorandum from their supervisor must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources. The memorandum must state the type of degree, the awarding institution, and the date of the degree or certification. The employee must also provide an official transcript.

Volunteer State Community College Non-Faculty Employees who receive a degree may be eligible, unless otherwise stated in the employment letter or other documents, for a one (1) time salary adjustment at the applicable fixed rate determined by the College.

Volunteer State Community College Faculty Employees who receive a degree may be eligible, unless otherwise stated in the employment letter or other documents, for a one (1) time salary adjustment according to the salary plan. To calculate the change in compensation, the employee's current salary will be calculated as a percentage of the current salary scale. As long as that percentage is 100% or less, the employee will receive that same percentage of the new amount on the salary scale. If the employee is making more than 100% of the midpoint of the salary scale for the current position, they will be placed at 100% of the minimum of the midpoint of the new degree level's salary scale. If that amount is an increase of less than the amount that Non-Faculty Employees receive for a new degree, then the faculty will receive the applicable fixed rate for Non-Faculty Employees.

Volunteer State Community College employees who are receiving a degree may be eligible, unless otherwise stated in the employment letter or other documents, for a one (1) time salary adjustment of $1,166.00.
